CT DOT Worker Killed After Being Struck On Highway Ramp Shoulder

A 26-year-old Connecticut Department of Transportation worker was killed after being struck by a vehicle on the shoulder of a highway exit ramp.

The crash happened in New Haven County on Friday, June 28 just after 9:15 a.m., when the DOT worker was struck while working alongside the shoulder of the Exit 13 on-ramp on Interstate 91 South in Wallingford, Connecticut State Police announced. 

An investigation conducted by troopers determined that the worker had been policing trash for mowing crews when he was hit by a vehicle on the ramp that left its lane, police said.

The worker, identified as New Haven County resident Andrew DiDomenico of Meriden, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The driver of the car that hit DiDomenico stayed at the collision scene and is now in State Police custody. His identity and charges against him have not yet been announced. 

The investigation into the crash is still ongoing. Any motorists in the area of the collision scene are asked to seek an alternate route as authorities investigate the incident.
